We are delighted to announce that images from the MUTTS comic strip will appear in an upcoming exhibition at the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, California.
The exhibition, titled “Working Dogs,” celebrates the heroism of our hardworking canine companions — from therapy and seeing-eye dogs to fire and police dogs, among others. It will run from August 9, 2018 through January 27, 2019.
Patrick McDonnell and Peanuts creator Charles Schulz shared not only an occupation and a dear friendship, but also a deep appreciation for animals. In Peanuts, Snoopy the beagle is portrayed as a loyal friend, a clever individual, and a dynamic character with many different jobs and personas. In the Museum’s “Working Dogs” exhibit, Patrick’s MUTTS characters will accompany Snoopy on a wall showcasing other strips that celebrate dogs (such as Pickles, Luann, and Ask Shagg). “I’m happy that the Museum can highlight cartoonists with dogs in their strips, who have lent their voices to bring attention to working dogs,” says Jean Schulz.
The following MUTTS strip from September 6, 2009 will also be featured on a standing banner in the gallery:
Additionally, the exhibition will highlight Canine Companions for Independence (CCI), a non-profit organization that connects assistance dogs with humans who have special needs. Jean and Charles Schulz have been longtime supporters of CCI, with Jean having served as board president for 15 years.
More information about “Working Dogs” is available online at the museum’s official website.
