To celebrate 26 years of MUTTS, we’re asking readers to tell us what the strip means to them, and to share some of their best memories of Mooch, Earl, and the rest of the crew.

We are appreciative of all the messages we’ve received, and we will continue to share your responses — so please comment below if you have memories or kind words. Thank you for the love!

“My mom and I shared a love for the ‘Little Pink Sock.’ She bought us each a pair a couple of years ago. The best gift I ever gave her was a personalized MUTTS strip. She passed away early January of this year, so seeing the MUTTS comics means good memories!” — Heather M.

“My beloved grandmother was outwardly a stoic woman and not prone to jokes, so when she snuck a ‘Yesh’ into a conversation, most people overlooked it, but I always knew it was intentional. Her love for the sweetness, simplicity, and gentle humor of MUTTS was, I think, a reflection of a version of herself the world never allowed her the luxury of being. She’s been gone a long time, but seeing MUTTS or a little pink sock always makes me hug one of my cats and think of her.” — Elizabeth W.

“I have followed MUTTS almost since its inception, and though the strips and story arcs have evolved, they still keep their power to convey a thoughtful message. Each character brings to the front their concerns for a better world. Earl and Mooch can inspire so much with just their innocent humor and candid honesty. Guard Dog and Doozy always deliver their punch for friendship, love, and compassion. Shtinky Puddin’ will always remind us to love and protect our planet. Lastly, Shelter Stories continues to encourage all of us to put our grain of sand in the effort to make life better for all souls awaiting their forever homes. MUTTS is a powerful comic strip that shows us how to become better humans with kindness and respect. Thank you for this comic!!!” — Francisco R.

“Mooch and Earl got me through the most difficult time of my life. Their honest little hearts kept mine from breaking completely when my husband died. The way they see the world, with such love and positivity, kept me going. I suppose I should say thank you, Patrick, because they gave me something to look forward to every day when I thought my life was over.” — Lori K.

“I love MUTTS because it focuses on the simple things in life. I grew up in a home with a dog and a cat, so it seems familiar to me for a cat and dog to be friends.” — Lisa L.

“When I was a kid dreaming of getting my first dog, I began reading MUTTS. So much love and understanding between the animals left a permanent impact on me. I eventually got my dog at age 12, and she was one of the best friends I ever had in my entire life. I’m now a successful, though small business, dog trainer. Keeping dogs in their homes is a passion and a great privilege I thank God for. A few MUTTS books are displayed in my house. I love them so! Thank you for what you do!!!” — Sarah M.

Mutts makes me laugh and some days I need a good laugh. It is the first comic I read. Thanks for bringing laughter and joy into our lives.

I get Mutts delivered to my in box at work so everyday before I start I read your comic strip. It starts my day with a smile or a thought that I take a moment to dwell on before I begin. Sometimes it has a focus on personalities that we all know. I can’t think of a better way to start the day considering kindness and caring!

It brings joy to me every morning. A great way to start every day.
