As part of our ongoing 25th anniversary celebration, we’re digging deep into our archives to reminisce on some of the sweetest, funniest, and most significant moments from the past two and a half decades of MUTTS.

To kick things off, please enjoy these strips from the very first week MUTTS was published, in which readers (and Patrick) met Earl the cartoon pup and his beloved guardian Ozzie!

These are adorable. I’m 98% a cat person, but I like Earl (my favorite may be when Ozzie says “Sweet dreams, Earl” & Earl’s dream is of being curled up with Ozzie in bed – which is where he is having this dream

The September 7th strip is the one that caught my eye. Our dog at the time, Baby, had a favorite observation point in the doorway of the dining room/kitchen. The September 11th strip hooked me because Baby hated going out in the rain, but she LOVED being dried, brushed and cuddled afterwards.

I love it all, especially Mooch, but the relationship between Earl and Ozzie has always warmed my heart. Thanks for reprinting their first week together.
