World Spay Day is an annual campaign started by The Humane Society of the United States started to get the word out about the importance of spaying and neutering your pets.
There are many great reasons to consider spaying/neutering for your pet. The process of spaying/neutering your pets reduces the number of homeless animals in shelters, in turn reduces the number of animals euthanized every year. It can improve your pet’s health, reduce unruly behavior and can help save you pet care cost overall. For more information about why you should spay/neuter your pet read this article from HSUS.
If cost is an issue, HSUS has an online resource to help locate a low-cost spay/neuter program nearby. You can also search for resources by state through the HSUS’s Are You Having Trouble Affording Your Pet page.
Spaying and neutering isn’t just for cats and dogs, it is also recommended for your rabbit friends as well. This reduces potential cancers in female rabbits and behavioral issues in male rabbits.
Each year, Patrick McDonnell honors this day, by creating a special Spay Day-themed MUTTS strip! Want the daily strip delivered to your inbox? Sign up on the www.the-mutts.com home page!
