Some years ago I acquired a cat my daughter wanted to name “Moochie” after Moochie. She was not at all like Moochie and never came when I called her that. She was an unsociable cat I called the Boarder. She came for meals, but tended her own business otherwise. When I noticed that she did not react when I called her “Moochie,” I sat her down and ran girl’s names at her: Linda, Carol, Margaret. When I got to “Phyllis” she picked up her ears. So Phyllis she was and actually came (when she felt like it).
