Exciting news — yesh! Recently, Patrick was featured in Princeton Magazine, where he reflects on his upcoming book with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, MUTTS' origin and themes, and other upcoming projects he's excited about. Written by Donald H. Sanborn III, the feature on Patrick appears in the September 2022 issue.

Princeton Magazine Article, Heart to Heart

Avid MUTTS readers know that back in July 2021, Patrick began a six-month sabbatical from the MUTTS strip — his first ever — to work on a literary graphic novel with the Dalai Lama, which is now scheduled for release in January 2023. Heart to Heart has a timely message about compassion for the planet and the creatures that inhabit it.

Sanborn writes, "Asked about the extent to which Heart to Heart is a culmination of all of his work and passions, McDonnell reflects, 'I’ve been blessed. I’ve gotten to meet and work with people who are changing the world for the better — Eckhart Tolle, Jane Goodall, and the Dalai Lama. I feel like Heart to Heart is the next step.'" I have been reading Mutts comics for many years. I love the strip. I forward it to my adult children. I hope they enjoy it as much as I do! I also buy the calendar. Keep those good thoughts coming!

I would like to pre-order several copies of your Heart to Heart book. Is that a possibility?

I started reading the comics to my son when he was a baby in 1994, and Mutts is still our favorite.

Such a wonderful cartoon …..how nice it is to express so much goodness and joy in the use of such simple art . The magic is in the slight alterations of line work to express such a wide range of emotions……done perfectly . And the story lines hit dead on …….another talent rarely seen . But the biggest gift to us all is the compassion portrayed throughout…….this man , Patrick , lives the way he champions . What a lucky society we are to have one like him promoting the welfare of our innocent neighbors on this planet .
